(05-02-2017) Park & Ride, Antwerp (B) - PROJECT UPDATE

Advancing.

In 2015, we were commissioned by BAM (Beheersmaatschappij Antwerpen Mobiel) to design all Park & Ride infrastructure around the city of Antwerp. This major project is part of an on-going effort to further develop public transport and to reduce the amount of cars entering the city centre.

Intrigued by the notion that in parking buildings construction = architecture, and driven by the ambition to reduce the embedded carbon footprint of this construction, we set out to develop a demountable and hybrid structure of wood and concrete. This results in a larger floor height, which in its turn makes for more daylight penetrating the building mass. This is further enhanced by large patios that structure the buildings’ circulation areas.
